My first helmet design at Bern Unlimited I was tasked with replacing their best selling model the Brentwood, a helmet that had been in their line for 9 years. During our research, we pivoted from a direct replacement of the Brentwood to an additional helmet in the line, which became the Union, a more ventilated, sophisticated and performance-driven model.
Learning to design and engineer to standards I had never worked with proved to be a rewarding challenge, as the Union went on to become one of the top tested helmets by Virginia Tech. Their test shows, that while standards require only "Pass/Fail", not all helmets are created equal!
